Click here for a list of approved science-fiction titles. REMEMBER: you must choose a title on your Lexile level. If you do not know what this is, e-mail me and I will respond with your current score. If you are looking for an 'unofficial' ballpark figure, go with a score of 1000-1400 or higher. Again, e-mail for exact figure.
In addition, THE 'BOOK REPORT' and 'READING LOG' OPTIONS ARE NO-LONGER AVAILABLE. Instead, You may:
1. Choose to write a report that address how your title includes the major characteristics of science fiction:
- Explores a possible future of humanity
- Incorporates fantastic devices
- Deals with a complex social or political issue
- Suspends our disbelief
2. Compare and contrast your book to another book or film that deals with similar issues. If you choose to compare and contrast your book to the film version, be mindful that you must
read the book AND watch the film (such as
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and
Blade Runner, or
Starship Troopers and the movie of the same name). Remember that many films do not share a name with the books that they were inspired by.
Requirements for both IR options above: Your name, my name, class/period, and date should be at the top-left. Title should include a shortened version of the prompt and include the title(s) that you will be addressing, and be centered on the page one space below the heading. Length should be 750 words or 2-4 typed pages.
